The Role of Sports in Childhood Education

We have Frederick M. Hess joining us, though you might know him as Rick Hess.

He’s a senior fellow and the Director of Education Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). Rick is a well-known voice in education, focusing on K–12 and higher education issues. He’s the brilliant mind behind Education Week’s blog, “Rick Hess Straight Up,” and Education Next’s segment, “Old School with Rick Hess.”

Besides these roles, Rick is also the executive editor of Education Next, a senior contributor to Forbes, and a contributing editor to National Review. He’s even the founder and chairman of AEI’s Conservative Education Reform Network.

An accomplished educator, political scientist, and author, Rick has published extensively in scholarly journals like American Politics Quarterly, Harvard Education Review, Social Science Quarterly, Teachers College Record, and Urban Affairs Review. His expertise and insights have also been featured in major media outlets, including The Atlantic, National Affairs, The Dispatch, Fox News, The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.

In today’s conversation, Rick will share his unique perspective on several key topics:

  1. Rick’s Connection to Sports: From being a high school teacher and coach to a dedicated parent and passionate fan, Rick explores how sports have influenced his life and career.
  2. The Role of Sports in Childhood Education: We’ll discuss the importance and impact of integrating sports into early education.
  3. Managing Young Athletes: Tips and strategies for parents navigating the athletic journey of their children.
  4. The Perils of Social Media: Should we approach social media with the same caution as automobile rules? Rick weighs in on this pressing issue.
  5. The Role of NIL in Secondary Education: An exploration of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights and their implications for high school athletes.
  6. The Value of a College Degree: Assessing the true worth of a college education in today’s competitive job market.
  7. Words of Wisdom: Rick offers invaluable advice for young athletes and their parents to help them succeed on and off the field.

Whether you’re an educator, parent, athlete, or simply passionate about the intersection of sports and education, this episode is packed with insights you won’t want to miss.

      Mark Koesterer
      Founder

Welcome. I’m Mark Koesterer, founder of The Players NIL, and I have a deep passion for this work. My background includes a long and extensive relationship with the sporting industry. As a former college athlete, I have first hand experience navigating the collegiate world. As a father of college athletes, I was actively involved with supporting the requirements needed to compete at the highest level, while maintaining focus on broader life goals. As the president and CEO of Sports Studio, I helped build a successful Hollywood sports and entertainment company.

At Sports Studio, I interacted with athletes, brands, production companies, professional sports leagues, and agents. All of this gave me expert-level experience in digital marketing, branding, production, group licensing, sponsorship, influencer marketing, apparel design and production, and fan engagement.

It’s ALL of this collective experience that I offer, while bringing you a premier level of service that will help you reach your goals. If you would like to learn how to build your brand and maximize your NIL potential, contact me today.
